Sumario:This paper is focused on the fundamental role that the work developed by Ana María Lorandi during the ‘60s and ‘70s played in the archaeology of Santiago del Estero. It aims to show the imprint made in the reconstruction of a field of study relegated 25 years before and also in the knowledge and reflection of the local archaeology. In order to do that, we analyzed the origin of Lorandi’s interest on this area, the diverse research perspectives applied and her field, thematic and intellectual trajectory. Not only the historical context of production of such knowledge is analyzed but also the present moment of development of Santiago del Estero’s archaeology, based on published and unpublished papers by Lorandi and on papers written by other authors regarding her research trajectory.
