Sumario:Using the analytic category of ‘overcrowded universe’ proposed by Florencia Tola (2012) for the cosmology of indigenous Qom of the Gran Chaco, I aim to demonstrate its validity for the case of migrant and peri-urban Qom of Derqui (Buenos Aires) with whom I work. According to native perspectives, the periphery of the big city is presented as an ‘overcrowded universe’ by various non-human and mythological beings. Specifically, this article aims to analyze our field records in reference to two of them: the elephant of the sky and the anaconda-woman of the aquatic urban depths. More than loss due to migratory displacement, I observe continuities of the cosmology and in the perception of surrounding space.
