Sumario:Since the 2001 crisis, the Argentine economy has recorded average annual growth rates of around 8% and the economy has generated more than four million jobs. One of the key players in this performance has been the industrial elite, made up of the 100 most important manufacturing companies in the country in terms of sales volume. However, the changes within this group have not been homogeneous, and while sectors such as Chemicals and Plastics and Food, Beverages and Tobacco recorded a fall in their relative weight, the Automotive and Iron and Steel sectors have strongly benefited during these years. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to examine, on the one hand, the transformations registered within the industrial top in terms of its weight in the manufacturing activity and the relative importance of the different branches that compose it; and on the other hand, to provide a characterization of the automotive top and the evolution of its production, its employment generation capacity, the form assumed by the distribution of the surplus generated and its growing linkage and dependence on the external sector.
