Why is that a multiplicity of heterogeneous and unequal actors tend to share similar representation of a city who use and experience differently? It attempts to answer these questions through analysis of laws and policies on the city, urban interventions and projects, pictures of the city, and maps and representations made by its inhabitants. It argues that the image of the city is the product of the sedimentation of a historical process in which urban and political elements are present, morphological, geographical and historical contexts. The public image is paradoxical in a town subject to various processes of transformation and, therefore, tends to omit elements of the city as we know it today. En el presente artículo la ciudad es pensada como espacio de representación. ¿Cómo se estabiliza una imagen pública de la ciudad? ¿A qué se debe que una multiplicidad heterogénea y desigual de actores tiendan a compartir una representación similar de una ciudad que usan y experimentan diferencialmente? Se intenta responder a estas preguntas por medio del análisis de legislaciones y políticas sobre la ciudad, publicidad municipal, intervenciones y proyectos urbanos, dibujos de la ciudad, y representaciones y mapas elaborados por sus habitantes. Se sostiene que la imagen de la ciudad es producto de la sedimentación de un proceso histórico y urbano en el cual están presentes elementos políticos, morfológicos, geográficos e históricos.
