Sumario:This article belongs to a larger study about the forms and functions of metatheatre in Argentine drama of the twentieth century. From a comparatist theatre perspective, the focus of this work is to analyze the relationship between the grotesque and metatheatre in both Luigi Pirandello and in modern Argentine theatre. More specifically I explore Roberto Arlt’s appropriation of the Pirandellian grotesque in three of his first works: Trescientos millones (1932), Saverio el cruel (1936), El fabricante de fantasmas (1936).
