Sumario:The purpose of this work is to estimate the impact of dollarization had on the financial intermediation process of the ecuadorian economy during the period 1999-2017.  A review of the most important literature is carried out throughout this study. Also the advantages and disadvantages of the dollarization regime are presented. The empirical part describes the economic context existing before dollarization and the causes that led to the decision of adopting such policy, as well as the evolution of the main variables that influence the financial intermediation through banking system. In addition, through the implementation of a linear regression model with controls, it was found that dollarization had a positive impact on financial intermediation, confirming a structural change in the determinants of such process, after the dollarization scheme started.
