Sumario:Based on historical factors, South - South relationships axis, bilateral agreements on cooperation, deepening economic links driven by global strategic competition with the United States, China intensified its presence in LAC. Similar interests centered on economic growth and Latin American eagerness to expand external autonomy, enabled political, economic and cultural sino – latinamerican links expansion during the last two decades. At the beginning of the 21st century, Chinese activism in LAC responds to long-term goals linked to national power-building process that consolidates China´s ascendance as an “emerging power” during this century. Instead, for Latin American countries China became a political ally, an economic partner and, sometimes, a counterweight power against US pressures exerted within the region.
