Sumario:In this paper we present a preliminary description of the characteristics and distribution of the rock art recorded in four rock shelters located in the lower basin of the Desire River, in Santa Cruz Northern coast area. In order to discuss the regional significance involved in these paintings, we present a systematization of some motifs characteristics and their contextual association, both locally and regionally. The results suggest the eastward expansion of Patagonian rock art range, which would have occurred in connection with contacts within populations and/or the transmission of ideas among hunter-gatherer groups during the middle Holocene, and especially the late Holocene.
