| Sumario: | In this paper we analyze the spatial configuration and location characteristics of Pucara de Perchel archaeological site. The site has a surface of 2.921 m2 it is located in Angosto del Perchel (Tilcara, Jujuy, Argentina) and would have been intensely occupied during the Late Intermediate and Inca periods. Hypothesis about this settlement role in the social landscape of Quebrada de Humahuaca central section and its chronology are stated. Also, the hypothesis about Pucara de Perchel as the Tilcara’s northern frontier –proposed from XVII century documents- is contrasted. The analysis allowed considering the settlement as a pucara of the Late Intermediate period, probably established as a frontier space. Pucara de Perchel role as a strategic place would have extended in time, being an important place during the Nineteenth century independence wars. |
