Sumario:This work presents, a study of lithic procurement at the northern Hualfin valley (Catamarca province), which aim is to stablish the regional base of resources available. We sought to find out if the Villa Vil River bedrock constitutes a potential source of lithic resources suitable to make knapped artefacts, as well as, grinding tools. The river is located next to two archaeological sites, whose occupations date to the Formative and the Late-Inka periods. For this, we carried out petrographic analysis at macroscopic and microscopic (thin section) scales of both, rocks collected from the riverbed and lithic artefacts. Furthermore, we took into account previous information about the lithic technology of the archaeological sites. The results allowed to identify raw materials undetermined until now. The studies also point out that several raw materials used for making tools are locally available. Additionally, we considered bibliographic information to discuss the procurement of other rock varieties, which could be allochthonous considering that its sources have not been identified in the research area, yet.
