Sumario:The current paper will explian the theoretical aspects used as basis of work. The purpose of our research is to observe the Spanish process of conquest and colonization, and the occupation's social-economic profile in a frontier area -the geographical region between Charcas and Tucumán- during the second half of the XVI and XVII centuries. The latter region is also framed in a broader area extending southwards to the Puna and Quebrada de Humahuaca in Jujuy province. Even when due to further political administrative divisons, both regions seemed unconnected to each other, the macroregion encompassing southern Bolivia and northern of Argentina shows a cultural continuum until today.
