Sumario:This paper is an advance of a bigger investigation about kinship, family and society in the colonial La Rioja and it presents the results reached on the study of five generations of the Villafañe & Guzmán. Family organization forms, inheritance system, differential identity construction and strategies through which this family kept its patrimony and its prestigious place within the local elite, are analized and argued in this paper.
