Sumario:In the present article we will analyze the two specific acting methodologies of the early nineteenth century: the cultured and the popular, to observe how the actor's work did not escape the censorship exercised by the Sociedad del Buen Gusto por el Teatro (1817-1821). This organism, made up of the Buenos Aires elite belonging to the intellectual and power fields, disapproved of the actor's gestures and grotesque corporality, as well as the representation of sainetes and other popular genres of the time, for not responding to the objectives of the civilizing and pedagogical project that this organism had for the incipient Argentine nation.
