Sumario:Despite the improvements that Latin American education journals have shown in recent decades, such as the advance of digital publishing and their wide dissemination in open access, editors of academic journals face several challenges to meet the needs of researchers, practitioners, students, and other stakeholders who benefit from educational research. In this essay I use documentary research to present some reflections on the particular characteristics of education journals and the roles of publishers in the construction and dissemination of educational knowledge. I conclude that in order to increase the quality and sustainability of education journals it is a priority to promote the work of editors from the science and university policies that support the academic publishing system in Latin America.
