Sumario:Vacant lands account for a considerable percentage in Latin American cities, while cities grow, spreading increasingly on the surface. The existence of these spaces involves waste and evidences the weaknesses of local governments in planning urban growth. In this context, it is necessary to recognize these lands as well as the attributes they possess, in order to be able to prioritize them with future use in mind, based on sustainable criteria: the efficient use of urban infrastructure, the reduction of flood risks, accessibility, density and the completeness of the fabric. So the objective of this article is to build a methodology for the analysis of vacant lands, in order to recognize those priorities of use according to their attributes, based on sustainability criteria, in order to provide knowledge to local governments to (re)guide urban growth planning.
