Sumario:The purpose of this article is to deepen into an identity characterization of the city of Comodoro Rivadavia, in Patagonia Argentina, based on its historical extractive specificity, and the impact of this productive matrix on social (dis)integration. Focusing on the construction of a commodity consensus around oil at the local level, we point out how the production of hydrocarbons structures community life (re) producing relations of inequality and environmental injustice. Finally, considering the social movement against mining in the province, we look into the processes of socioenvironmental (dis)naturalization of extractivism.
