Sumario:This article proposes a comparative discursive analysis of corpora formed by Argentine folklore and Brazilian forró lyrics composed in the 1940s and 1950s, specifically observing how the possibility, or impossibility, appears of the return of their protagonists to their places of origin, as well as the reasons for their withdrawal. The analysis especially uses the concepts of topography (Maingueneau, 1997; 2000), discursive memory (Pêcheux 2011; 1999) and polyphony (Ducrot, 1984). The text discusses the relationship between nostalgia and space in the lyrics of musical genres from different parts of the world, considering how this association is linked to socio-historical issues. Likewise, the idiosyncrasies of Brazil and Argentina are examined, as well as the stabilization circumstances of the fields (Bourdieu, 2003) of Argentine folklore and forró. The article concludes that, in the Brazilian case, the possibility of return is present, and the withdrawal is explained by droughts or by divine designs. In the Argentine case, destiny is held as the sole cause of such distance and the possibility of return does not appear to exist.
