| Sumario: | This paper presents the results of anthropological research on the relationship between education and the environment in rural primary schools in the central–western region of the province of Santa Fe (Argentina). It reconstructs the social, productive, and environmental context in which rural schools are located, which is characterized by the development of an intensive agricultural system known as agribusiness. It analyzes how the characteristics of this context affect the development of school gardens, an activity that is presented by rural teachers as part of Environmental Education. The analysis highlights tensions between a pedagogical mandate linked to the development of school gardens in rural areas, their reinterpretation as part of Environmental Education, and the socio–environmental problems present in these contexts. The aim is to highlight the limits and potential of their pedagogical work on environmental issues. |
