This article aims to characterize this type of text and develop an approach for its analysis. To achieve this goal, the article examines the emergence of scientific texts in the context of the formation of modern science, identifies tensions between the narrative nature of academic historical discourse and the argumentative and expositional requirements of the scientific domain, and introduces the notion of “narrative of science”. This concept is addressed from a semiotic-discursive perspective that incorporates contributions from Actor-Network Theory, semiotics, and rhetorical studies on scientific texts, focusing on the rhetorical-discursive mechanisms present in history research articles. The article concludes with the illustration of this approach through the analysis of a recent Argentine history article. In particular, it focuses on the discursive configuration of three situational references –situation of enunciation, series of events, and situation of research– their articulations, and their implications for the production of scientific-academic credibility. In this way, this study seeks to provide a deeper understanding of the nature and functioning of history research articles as communicative forms. En los estudios interesados en el discurso científico-académico, el artículo de investigación de historia es una clase de textos poco abordada en su especificidad. Este artículo la caracteriza y desarrolla una propuesta para su análisis. Con este fin, se describe la formación de la ciencia moderna como contexto de surgimiento de los textos científicos, se caracterizan las tensiones entre el carácter narrativo del discurso histórico académico y su adecuación a los formatos expositivos-argumentativos exigidos en el ámbito científico y se conceptúa la noción de “narrativa científica”. En particular, este concepto se redefine desde una perspectiva semiótico-discursiva que recupera aportes de la Teoría del Actor-Red, la semiótica y los estudios retóricos sobre textos científicos y que focaliza en los mecanismos retórico-discursivos del artículo de investigación de historia. Finalmente, se ilustra la propuesta mediante el análisis de un artículo de historia reciente argentina. En particular, se focaliza en la configuración discursiva de tres referentes situacionales –situación de enunciación, serie de los acontecimientos y situación de investigación–, sus articulaciones y sus corolarios en la producción de credibilidad científico-académica. Así, se busca proporcionar una comprensión más profunda sobre la naturaleza y el funcionamiento de los artículos de investigación de historia como formas comunicativas.
