Interest in the topic arose after taking related courses and, particularly, from a practical experience within the training space of the Bachelor's degree in Social Work program. This experience took place at the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Community Integration Center "Asociación Civil Rumbos" in the city of Santa Fe. The main theoretical issues discussed relate to the difficulties in implementing the guidelines of National Mental Health Law No. 26.657/2010, specifically regarding the replacement of asylum-based institutions with community-based services. The paper concludes that the realities of the mental health field are too complex to be addressed by a single discipline or by a State that shows little interest in guaranteeing the right to mental health protection. En este trabajo se realiza un análisis teórico y una breve descripción del campo de la salud mental en Argentina. El interés por el tema se generó luego de cursar asignaturas afines y particularmente por una experiencia de práctica en el espacio de formación de la carrera Licenciatura en Trabajo Social. Dicha experiencia tuvo lugar en el Centro de Rehabilitación Psicosocial e Integración Comunitaria “Asociación Civil Rumbos” de la ciudad de Santa Fe. Los principales nudos teóricos que se exponen guardan relación con la dificultad para viabilizar los lineamientos de la Ley Nacional de Salud Mental Nº 26.657/2010 acerca de la sustitución de las instituciones manicomiales por dispositivos con base comunitaria. Se concluye que lo que acontece en el campo de la salud mental es complejo para ser abordado desde una sola disciplina y desde un Estado con desinterés por garantizar el derecho a la protección de la salud mental.
