| Sumario: | This article seeks to highlight the main territorial transformations that have occurred during the last 20 years in the peri-urban areas of the La Plata district. To this end, the methodological approach starts from investigating the growth trends present in the sector during the study period, recognizing four axes linked to the main communication channels that guide said expansion. Then, the predominant uses and the main socio-territorial conflicts present in each of these axes are identified in order to characterize different types of peripheries and delimit urban-rural interface sectors. Finally, using satellite photo surveys, we proceed to construct peri-urban typologies based on the predominant occupation logic during the study period. The results reveal the presence of a process of unregulated urban expansion that has resulted in the displacement of the La Plata horticultural belt and a broad socio-environmental impact. |
