However, it is resignified along with the verb euergetéo in the Septuagint, where both are mostly applied to God. In the Hellenistic period, euergétes is frequently used as a title of sovereigns and prominent personalities, and all three words acquire a distinctive nuance in the New Testament. This article will analyze the meanings of these terms within their contexts of use in the Septuagint and in the NT, aiming to inquire the process of resemantization they underwent, which allows to posit that they have clearly gained a religious and theological sense in these texts. El sustantivo εὐεργεσία (“beneficio”) puede rastrearse hasta Homero y se registra en variosautores del período clásico. Sin embargo, junto con εὐεργετέω (“hacer el bien”), seresignifican en Septuaginta, traducción realizada en el período helenístico, en el cual esfrecuente el uso de εὐεργέτης (“benefactor”) como título aplicado a soberanos ypersonalidades destacadas. En este artículo, analizaremos los significados de estostérminos en sus contextos de uso en Septuaginta y en el NT, con el objetivo de indagar elproceso de resemantización que experimentaron desde el sentido político que predominaen el helenismo hasta el claro perfil religioso y teológico que ya han adquirido en ambostextos.
