| Sumario: | The analysis of regional economic resilience has gained attention since the international financial crisis of 2008-2009 and more recently with the COVID-19 pandemic. In Argentina, a few quantitative studies have analyzed the crises of the early and late 2000s, but there is still limited evidence on the resilience against the pandemic. Given the scarcity of subnational economic statistics, we first propose the calculation of a (monthly) index of local economic activity, which will then be used as an input for a first comprehensive analysis of the resilience of 85 local economic areas (LEAs) of Argentina during 2020 and 2021. The results show heterogeneous impacts and different capacities of the LEAs to resist and recover from shocks, issues that are also linked to their different productive structures. It is essential to consider these heterogeneities when generating policies to respond to future crises. |
