Sumario:Critical Extension can be defined as a process of education–communication that links university groups and social actors, in which a dialogue of knowledge (academic and popular) is promoted, from which new and collective knowledge is born with a sense of radical social change. Critical Extension is a tributary of university practices related to the Popular Universities of the continent, the contributions of the Uruguayan philosopher José Luis Rebellato and epistemic horizons such as Popular Education and Participatory Action Research. In order to achieve its objectives, Critical Extension must deepen its conceptual, ethical and methodological guidelines from the theoretical contributions that place it in an authentic praxis. In this paper we deal with a fundamental structure of Critical Extension that can be understood as a locus of critical dialogue of knowledge. We refer to Paulo Freire’s “mixed” teams, Orlando Fals Borda’s Reference Groups and the Motor Groups of the CIMAS Network.
