| Sumario: | The effects of trade liberalization and terms of trade on economic growth are a widely debated topic. Although there are various works that analyse these relationships, conclusive or robust results have not yet been obtained. In this sense, this work aims to be a contribution to the empirical literature that studies the impact of these external determinants on the rate of economic growth. Specifically, it is intended to analyse these effects according to the level of development of the countries, thus achieving a disaggregated and specific analysis. To achieve this objective, the sample was divided according to the income level of the countries, alternative measures of trade openness and terms of trade were constructed, and parametric estimates were carried out for panel data. The results obtained show some differences according to groups of countries. In low- and high-income countries, trade openness and the growth rate of the terms of trade are positively related to economic growth, while the terms of trade are uncorrelated with output growth. For its part, in middle-income countries, a greater degree of trade openness, an improvement in the terms of trade or an increase in its variation rate are positively related to the product growth rate. |
