Sumario:Educational institutions face differentiation processes and considerable challenges due to the phenomenon of massification of higher education systems. This article analyzes the recent expansion in the access to this educational level in Argentina and its effects on the system’s configuration. Based on the Statistical Yearbooks provided by the National Ministry of Education, the evolution of higher level (including both university and non-university) educational offerings during the 2010-2020 period according to management and regional sectors is examined. Likewise, indicators of access and graduation of young people, according to the socioeconomic level of homes and regions based on information from the Permanent Household Survey, are analyzed. An increase in access to the higher education level (university and non-university) stands out, mainly in low socioeconomic sectors and particularly in certain regions of the country. However, there is also a drop in the participation of young people who achieved a higher level qualification between 2013 and 2022. Finally, the article provides some reflections upon the challenges related to planning and coordination in order to meet educational and social requirements in the future.
