Sumario:The world today goes through a severe environmental pollution crisis. In addition to this, population growth demands the construction of houses in which concrete is used as the main material. This material is traditionally made up of: sand, gravel, water, air and cement. The manufacture of portland cement is responsible for 4 percent of the total pollution by carbon dioxide (CO2), due to the burning of fossil fuels that this implies. One way to mitigate this type of pollution would be to use wood in construction. However, since wood is a material of biological and heterogeneous origin, it is necessary to study its properties and their variations within the shaft in order to define its final destination and even more so if it is its structural use. In this work, the basic density, transition age between juvenile and mature wood and the flexural strength and Janka hardness of Salix babylonica x Salix alba 'Ragonese 131-27' were studied because it could be used in the construction of social housing in our country. The density value obtained (0,416 g cm-³) allowed this wood to be classified as light (value similar to those presented for Eucalyptus grandis, Populus and Oregon Pine). The values ​​obtained for flexural strength and Janka hardness report values ​​similar to those found for other commercial woods, which would allow its use as solid wood.
