Sumario:This article studies the relationship between the perspective of social medicine, eugenics and biotypology with the social intervention of the State. We consider that this matrix served as a dominant paradigm and expression of a theoretical, scientific and ideological consensus between sectors of hygiene, civil society and the State itself, transcending the most diverse and even antagonistic positions and political projects. The influence of this perspective contributed to the modernization and rationalization of the State's social intervention, configuring the assistance dimension through the processes of professionalization and institutionalization of Social Work.
