| Sumario: | Between the months of August and October 2017, the disappearance, appearance and death of Santiago Maldonado shocked Argentine society. At the crossroads between the sociology of public problems and memory studies, this article addresses the case considering its link with the memory of forced disappearances that took place during the military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Taking the 78 days Santiago remain desaparecido as our unit of analysis, we seek to reconstruct the complex time frame that made the case intelligible and to detect the forms of memorial activation that emerged around forced disappearance in the public space. Likewise, we intend to analyze what were the strategies and arguments put in place by Cambiemos’ government to deal with the complaint and, as will be seen, dispute the memorial and political meaning of the case. |
