Sumario:The context-based application of the teaching theories of languages is essential to the teaching work, especially when a consistent and effective practice is sought. From the perspective of the teaching approach known as English for Specific Purposes, two courses in English within humanity university courses (teacher training tracks) were described in detail, characterizing them to carry out a comparative analysis between classroom practice and the reading teaching models currently available. The courses were observed for a whole semester; thus, allowing the analysis of the teaching components from objectives to assessment. The analysis showed inconsistencies inwards the components as well as inadequacy regarding the reading models and English language teaching approaches. These results highlight the significance of consistency in the teachers’ decision-making process for an optimal enhancement of the learning process.
