Sumario:In this paper I analyze the connection between the Marxist period of youth and the mature neo-Aristotelian one in the thought of Alasdair MacIntyre, emphasizing the problem posed by the possibility of criticizing and rationally justifying a moral theory. Through a comparative reading of works from both periods I show how the inability to offer a satisfactory solution to this early concern in one of the reasons that lead him to abandon the Marxist tradition, and how the mature Aristotelian formulation seeks to overcome this difficulty, while keeping other premises and previous theoretical commitments.
