Sumario:The purpose of this article is to examine the social representations and meanings created in and from practices of a certain type of music popularly known and spread as «folkloric», within the framework of regional–national commercial festivals in the Northwest of Argentina (NOA). Particularly, we will address here the performances of certain artists, which took place in the folk festival Serenata a Cafayate, in its 2020 edition, in the province of Salta. In this regard, from the analysis of the uses of the material supports enabled by folk music– song lyrics, musical instruments, etc.— and those involved in performance and showmanship —dress, objects placed on stage, etc.—, we will attempt to examine the performative strategies that artists display, in the mentioned space, in terms of identity (de)marking, giving rise to different articulations between ethnic, regional and national representations.
