| Sumario: | In this work I propose to make a tribute to the philosophical work of Graciela Vidiella. With this goal in mind, I focus on his work "Literary Imagination and Citizen Virtues." In this research, Vidiella argues with some caution that reading literary texts can make us better people. Literature's crucial moral contribution would be to develop in its readers a sense of justice, tolerance, solidarity, and critical thinking. In relation to critical thinking, I defend the idea according to which Vidiella connects her reasoning with Rawlsian- kind of liberalism. In addition, I propose an alternative way of understanding critical thinking through contributions from a leftist theorist like Herbert Marcuse who was concerned with endowing humanity, precisely through art, with a critical sense regarding a hegemonic culture. |
