Sumario:Different economical alternatives to capital have emerged in the last decades in Argentina and Latin America. Grouped under the wide field of the social and solidarity economy, they consist of a heterogeneous set of economic initiatives that include organizational elements of associative and democratic self-government, as well as solidarity links with the community to which they belong. In the case of Mendoza, this field has developed vigorously thanks to the conjunction of the work of numerous subjects -individuals and collectives-. In this work, we carry out a geographical analysis of this socio-economic topic using, mainly, the notion of place as a conceptual tool. In this way, we aim to make a theoretical and empirical contribution to both geography and the social and solidarity economy. As a case study, we analyse the historical development of El Arca, a leading association in this field in Mendoza.
