In this way, it seeks to problematize the critical commonplace that considers Maupin as a metaphor for the romantic work of art. To this end, the generic hybridity that combines epistolary fiction, narrative and playwriting will be analyzed, as well as the transitional passages of Théodore/Madeleine. The analysis will take into account Butlerian notions of gender acts and performativity.
