This article addresses the analysis of the public communication of paleontological science carried out by the general newspapers of Argentine Patagonia, considering that this region is where the largest number of paleontological finds are produced in the country, and that it had been observed in previous research, that the topic was one of the most addressed by the national press in general. The objective of the research is to map the situation of journalistic coverage on paleontological science among the most representative newspapers in Argentine Patagonia, having observed that such disciplinary field does not have such indicators so far. This implies exploring and determining regularities and particularities in terms of the volume and characteristics of the informative approach carried out by the analyzed media on said scientific discipline. The methodology developed is that of content analysis carried out on an annual exploratory sample of the digital versions of 4 general newspapers from the provinces that make up Patagonia of the national territory (namely, Río Negro, Chubut, Neuquén, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego), which are considered more representative by their respective populations. In this regard, among the results of the survey carried out, it is evident that the origin of the journalistic production of the published stories is predominantly local, that the journalistic genre used is preferably that of the news (the shortest and most classic genre), that the treatment of sources are poorly diversified, and human sources are prioritized over documentary ones. |

El presente artículo aborda el análisis de la comunicación pública de la ciencia paleontológica realizada en los diarios generalistas de la Patagonia Argentina, considerando que dicha región del país es donde se producen la mayor cantidad de hallazgos paleontológicos, y que se había observado en investigaciones previas, que la temática era de las más abordadas por la prensa nacional en general. El objetivo de la investigación es conformar un mapeo de situación de la cobertura periodística sobre la ciencia paleontológica entre los diarios de mayor representatividad de la Patagonia Argentina, habiendo observado que dicho campo disciplinar no cuenta hasta el momento con tales indicadores. Esto implica explorar y determinar regularidades y particularidades en cuanto al volumen y características del abordaje informativo realizado por los medios analizados sobre dicha disciplina científica. La metodología desarrollada es la del análisis de contenido realizado sobre una muestra exploratoria anual de las versiones digitales de 4 diarios generalistas de las provincias que integran la Patagonia del territorio nacional (a saber, Río Negro, Chubut, Neuquén, Santa Cruz y Tierra del Fuego), los cuales son considerados de mayor representatividad por parte de sus respectivas poblaciones. Al respecto, entre los resultados del relevamiento realizado se evidencia que el origen de la producción periodística de las notas publicadas es predominantemente local, que el género periodístico utilizado es preferentemente el de la noticia (el género más breve y clásico), que el tratamiento de fuentes se encuentra poco diversificado, y que se priorizan las fuentes humanas por sobre las documentales.
