It was widely used in Latin America since the mid-1930s and reached its peak during the period of import-substitution industrialization. The aim of this paper is to provide an exploratory approach to the subject in order to study the main characteristics of each of the different stages involved in the planning process, to analyze the concrete way in which the government of Juan Domingo Perón during his first two presidencies resolved these challenges, and to contribute to the recovery of planning as a key tool to achieve the structural transformation of an economy. La planificación es un proceso mediante el cual un gobierno establece una serie de objetivos y diseña estrategias y políticas para alcanzarlos. Fue ampliamente utilizada en América Latina desde mediados de los 1930s y alcanzó su auge durante el período de industrialización por sustitución de importaciones. El propósito de este trabajo es brindar una aproximación de carácter exploratorio a la temática con el fin de estudiar las principales características de cada una de las diferentes etapas que involucran el proceso de planificación, analizar el modo concreto en que el gobierno de Juan Domingo Perón durante sus dos primeras presidencias resolvió estos desafíos, y contribuir a la recuperación de la planificación como una herramienta clave para lograr la transformación estructural de una economía.
