The allusion to a mythical past allowstoestablisha dialogue with the then and now, as a way to understand its evolution and, especially, to keep memory alive. InPedro Páramo, the deceased, as fantastic figures anchored to the timeless, function as perfect anchors between the past and present discursive dichotomy La memoria y el recuerdo son dos elementos clave que configuran la construcción de nuestra identidad. La alusión a nuestro yo pretérito permite el rastreo de las huellas de un pasado que ahonda en el carácter, en nuestras tradiciones, en nuestra perspectiva o en la formación sociocultural del imaginario colectivo. Este artículo analiza los mecanismos empleados por Juan Rulfo, en su obra Pedro Páramo (1955), para construir y reconstruir la identidad propia. La alusión a un pasado mítico permite establecer un diálogo con el entonces y el ahora, como vía para comprender su evolución y, en especial, para mantener viva la memoria. En Pedro Páramo, los difuntos, como figuras fantásticas ancladas a lo atemporal, funcionan como perfectos amarres entre la dicotomía discursiva pasado y presente.
