In these works, metaliterary devices play a functional role, justifying the alternation between prose and verses and legitimizing the introduction of external texts into the main narrative, in which both authors can provide further information about the phenomenon ofpayada rioplatense, with a particular emphasis onthe figureof the UruguayanpayadorJuan Pedro López. We will provide a formal and functional analysis of the metaliterary devices which characterize these works, finally reflecting on the importance of the novel-form for the circulation of both texts |
