The school practices require from History teachers much more thanthe discipline specific knowledge acquired in university education, but the articulation of different skills in the educational process. The continued education of teachers should respond to the demands, the social phenomena of our time, which represents a major challenge for educators and training institutions in Brazil. El presente artículo reflexiona sobre algunos problemas y desa-fíos de la formación continuada a partir del panorama brasileño del siglo XXI, donde cambios sociales operan las transformacio-nes en el ámbito de la educación y en el trabajo del profesor. Como proceso permanente de aprendizaje la formación se desa-rrolla en la experiencia cotidiana, en diferentes tiempos y espa-cios educativos. Las prácticas escolares exigen de los profesores de Historia mucho más que el conocimiento específico de la asignatura, adquirido en la formación universitaria, requiere la ar-ticulación de diferentes saberes en el proceso educativo. La for-mación continuada de los profesores debe responder a las de-mandas, a los fenómenos sociales de nuestro tiempo, lo que re-presenta un gran desafío para los educadores y para las institu-ciones formadoras en Brasil.
