Sumario:The internationalization efforts of the El Salvador University (ESU) have indirectlycontributed to the construction of local capacities and horizontal collaborative relationships withlocal actors in El Salvador. Its role as an interlocutor has facilitated contact between internationalentities that contribute to development objectives and local actors. Interesting internationalcooperation projects have been executed under associative modalities between universities, social organizations and the community. The existence of a university social projection policy, solid management support structures, human talent, capacity for dialogue and mutual co-responsibility have been key to success. The results are difficult to quantify, but they are not enough. There is still a need to build, structural problems and limitations persist in the country. The Salvadoran publicuniversity, autonomous, decentralized and with an important territorial presence, is an opportunity to bet on co-development, the Sustainable Development Goals are also the responsibility of the university.
