Then the central aspects of his ideal of a free and rational ethical life are presented, contrasting it with a heteronomous and irrational way of conducting existence. Finally, an attempt is made to specify the place of the tragic in this conception. El artículo intenta delinear lo que podría entenderse como la concepción weberiana de la vida buena en el contexto de la modernidad desencantada. Para ello, primero se esbozan las consecuencias no deseadas del proceso de racionalización en el Occidente moderno. Luego se plantean los aspectos centrales de su ideal de una vida ética libre y racional, contraponiéndola a una forma heterónoma e irracional de conducir la existencia. Finalmente, se intenta precisar el lugar que desempeña lo trágico en esta concepción.
