Sumario:AbstractThe objective of this article is to reflect on the political system of the province of Neuquén, Argentina, in the recent past, characterized by the dominance of the Neuquén Popular Movement (MPN), and by the attempts of the Justicialist Party (PJ) and the Radical Party (UCR) to win the elections. A series of considerations are made about the role and the tensions of both the PJ and the UCR, and its main actors, in a province in which alternatives existed but it was not possible to achieve electoral alternation. The aforementioned forces obtained the role of minorities, within the framework of a unicameral legislative power which only allowed access to the representatives of the winning network and the second force. The analysis is carried out on the basis of the author´s own research, with contributions from national and regional historiography, the information provided by the newspaper with the largest circulation in the region, local magazines and key testimonies from the period under scrutiny. This period covers from the beginning of Neuquén as a province (1958) until the democratic transition (1989).
