| Sumario: | Historically, the cooperative model has been committed to youth participation to ensure its survival and renewal. In Argentina, agrarian cooperatives sustain a secular tradition in organizing youth centers. The development of these centers is related to the settlement of the young people in the fields and their early incorporation to farm duties. They pay special attention to labor issues, sociability and daily life in the countryside.Youth participation supports the respect and faithful implementation of the Values and Principles of Cooperation. Also, their activities develop in the complex co-operative nature: a social movement that tries to grow numerically and, at the same time, an economic organization that aims to provide more and better services to its associates. Experience, memory and training are articulated in the implementation of cooperative Values. By the comparison of specialized literature, cooperatives journals, statutes, annual reports and interviews with qualified informants, in this article we examine the experiences of youth centers attached to Agricultores Federados Argentinos. Sociedad Cooperativa Limitada (AFA). Through the analysis of their discourses and programmed activities we visualize the ways in which the past has become a legacy for future generations. |
