Sumario:The language issue has a long history in the Rio de la Plata. It goes back to the earliest texts of the generation of 37 and it extends well into the thirties. In the 1920s, the debates flare up. Immigration, the emergence of avant garde and various forms of urban colloquialism entering the literature identifies some of the causes of the restoration of a discussion that was believed exhausted. In 1927, the newspaper Crítica drives a survey which aims to elucidate the probable formation of a language of its own in Argentina. In this paper, we discuss the various interventions in this survey as part of a controversy that in that year, reached its peak.
