| Sumario: | This article aimed to analise the representations of the candidates for the course of the Escola de Educação Física e Desportos (EEFD) of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in the 1970s about the desired career. Interviews were realized with four alumnus of the EEFD based on a semi-structured script. Among the factors listed to justify the desire to entry in the area, it stand out the presence of a professional example that marked the school life of respondents and the their taste for sports since childhood. Other relevant data was the absence of citation about the interest in practicing the professorship. Moreover, the idea that it was a college to practitioners of physics and/or (ex-)athletes was yet current in the 1970s. At last, it is important to highlight the social position and economic possibilities of each subject as a fundamental items for the construction of representations about the area. Although the representation of the area isn't one distinction factor in the relation among the diverse college courses, this representation differed according to possibilities and ambitions of the subjects were put before their socioeconomic conditions. |
