Sumario: | Dioctofimosis is caused by the nematode parasite Dioctophyma renale which has an indirect cycle. The intermediate host is a freshwater oligochaete and the final hosts are wild and domestic carnivores. The adult worm usually develops in the kidney or other tissues of the definitive host. Ectopic parasite localizations complicate the diagnosis due to the lack of specific symptoms. The objective of the work was to describe a case of extra-renal dioctofimosis in a canine, its biochemistry and histopathologic parameters, emphasizing the importance of complementary methods for diagnosis, since there are currently no indirect methods sensitive to diagnose this infecion. |
