Sumario:The need of a technical, reference paper for the use of field geologisl; is discussed in the two first sections of the work. A summary of the history of the Vertebrate Paleontology in Argentina is also presented here. Severa! ways of approaching the search and excavation of vertebrate fossil remains are included in the two following sections. Those techniques suitable for the distinct fossilife/rouse deposits (with examples from Argentina) areas described in the author's experience. Finally, the need of data organization of the findings and the characteristics\of the required equipement are discussed.
