| Sumario: | The extraordinary growth attained in the last years by computers and comunications led to the development of a network of several millions of computer systems linked by comunication lines, called Internet. Historical and structural aspects, and some network tools (i.e, Archie, E-mail, FTP, Gopher, Telnet, WAIS, WWW) are briefly described. The actual number of users is estimated at 35 millions; however, a lack of control and security in the network has become evident. Finally, the development of Internet in Argentina in the last two years, and the importance of the network to the science are emphasized. |
