Sumario:On this paper we estimate the amount of CPI biases for GBA during the period 1985- 2005 by shifts in Engel’s curves estimated on expenditure surveys. The results confirm that the CPI overstates inflation by more than 60%, which implies an income growth of the surveys between 4.3 and 5.7% per year. Additionally we find that the impact of the bias is concentrated in lower-income individuals. Correcting this impact can alter the evolution of inequality over the period.
